Akshay Bohra kicks off the Euro 4 Championship with the fastest time in Free Practice 1



The Indian driver for US Racing sets the first benchmark at Mugello for the 2024 Championship

The first race weekend of the 2024 Euro 4 Championship begins with the initial free practice session at Mugello Circuit. Forty minutes on the challenging Tuscan track marked the very first act of the continental Championship promoted by ACI Sport and WSK Promotion. Leading the field was Akshay Bohra, Indian driver born in New York representing the US Racing team, who set the fastest lap at 1’48.001. He was followed on the clock by his German teammate Maxim Rehm, with a gap of 0.227. Third place went to the Japanese driver for Van Amersfoort Racing, Hiyu Yamakoshi, 0.328 seconds behind. Australian Jack Beeton, also with US Racing, finished fourth, 0.424 seconds off, closely followed by Swedish driver Gustav Jonsson from Van Amersfoort Racing at 0.

Sixth place was taken by Latvian Tomass Stolcermanis, Prema Racing driver, who was the first among the Grisignano di Zocco-based team's drivers with a gap of 0.727. Australian Gianmarco Pradel, representing US Racing, finished seventh, 0.791 seconds behind. Positions eight to eleven were occupied by Prema Racing drivers, namely Emirati Rashid Al Dhaheri at 0.798, American Alex Powell at 0.851, Japanese Kean Nakamura-Berta at 0.908, and British Freddie Slater at 0.971, the last driver to keep the gap from Bohra within a second.

Another free practice session is scheduled today, Friday, August 23, from 14:10 to 14:50. Tomorrow, Saturday, August 24, will feature qualifying split into two sessions (8:30 - 8:45 and 8:55 - 9:10), followed by Race 1, scheduled for 16:30. Sunday, August 25, will be the day for the remaining two races: Race 2 will take place at 8:50, while Race 3, the grand finale of the weekend, will start at 16:00. Each race will last 30 minutes plus one lap.
